Cantina del Ray
From TheKCGuy
Cantina del Ray is the Mexican joint on the Southwest corner of Gregory and Wornall that opened in July 2008. It replaced Swizzle, which was open for a year or two in the same spot, and I believe is under the same ownership.
I was over there recently for dinner and was quite impressed. The espinaca dip is great, and the official word from the KC Guy espinaca department is that it's the best in town. I failed to get a margarita, so I can't really comment on that, which I believe is the other of the two most important parts of a Mexican restaurant.
Between the two of us, we got some tacos and some enchaladas, both of which were super. The beans were not refried, which may turn off some folks, but I think it's more "authentic," whatever that means for gringo-Mexican food. The report from the nearby table where my old buddy Turner was dining is that the nachos are terrific.
I recommend heading over to Cantina del Ray in Waldo when you get a hankering for some good Mexican food, especially if you want a little more "adult" environment than Jalapenos can offer.
