d'Bronx is one of my favorite local pizza shops, especially for pizza by the slice. They also offer subs, some deli sandwiches, and calzones, but their slices of thin pizza are what bring in the crowds. There are three locations now: the oldest one is in Midtown on 39th, one in Crown Center, and the newest location in Overland Park.
Midtown
I think the d'Bronx on 39th at Bell is the original d'Bronx. If you're headed there around lunchtime, be prepared to wait a bit, and don't even think of ordering a calzone. It will take too long. It's a great spot for a slice or two and a coke.
Eric Bowers took a neat picture of this d'Bronx.
Crown Center
The d'Bronx in Crown Center isn't much like the other d'Bronxes. It's down in the food court on the lower level, making it the only d'Bronx contained inside another structure. Also, it seems to focus much more on being a deli instead of a pizza slice place. Granted, d'Bronx really was originally a deli, but this one just feels too much like one. Also, the high concentration of school children in the area really changes the feeling of the joint.
Overland Park
The newest d'Bronx location is in Overland Park at 105th and Metcalf. It opened up November 14, 2007 and is now letting us southlanders get their fix of delicious slices of pizza over lunch.
- Take a look at my review of the new Overland Park D'Bronx from their opening day.
- Kansas City Kitty points out that the feeling from the 39th street d'Bronx is pretty much missing from this location.
They also apparently offer catering, which I guess would be great for office lunch meetings. I wonder if I can get my next meeting to spring for one of their humongous pizzas...
