Plaza Art Fair

Each fall in Kansas City, the end of summer and the coming of autumn are celebrated in the Country Club Plaza with the Plaza Art Fair. This free event runs all weekend long starting Friday evening. It features tons of artists' booths in the streets on the Plaza, food and drink stands run by local restaurants, and live music.

What happens there?
The afternoons are a great time to take your whole family to the Plaza and take in some art. There are events for the kids, usually near the corner of 47th and Broadway. The artists booths are typically South from there along Broadway and a few blocks in each direction on Nichols Rd and on Ward Parkway on the North side of Brush Creek.
In the evenings, things tend to get a little more active as the live music starts up and the crowd starts enjoying the freedom of having open containers of adult beverages provided by local establishments. It never gets really wild, in fact it's much more tame than a typical weekend night in Westport, but by 10pm when they shut down the outdoor booths, the crowd is usually celebrating quite happily.
Where should I park?
Parking does get a little tough for this event, even though the Plaza has a ton of indoor, free parking spaces. Heading North up the hill into the residential area towards Westport, there is a bunch of street parking that will usually reveal an open spot or two. Some people prefer to head to the neighborhoods to the South and West of the Plaza to park. I personally think that's usually a longer walk, but at least the hill isn't as bad.
